Parenting Alliance Measure™ (PAM™)
Richard R. Abidin, Ed.D., and Timothy R. Konold,,Ph.D.
The PAM is the only assessment that measures the parenting aspects of a couple’s relationship, providing the counselor with the parents’ perspective of how cooperative, communicative, and mutually respectful they are with regard to caring for their children.
The PAM is a useful screening and diagnostic tool for a variety of applications:
• Family counseling
•
Joint custody evaluations
•
Identification of dysfunctional parenting
•
Assessing the impact of intervention
In addition to its unique measure, the PAM is remarkably convenient and efficient:
•
Quick and easy for parents to complete in approx. 10 minutes
•
Easy to score in approx. 5 minutes
•
Applicable to a variety of parenting partners (married, divorced, unmarried, etc.)
Administration/Scoring
The PAM materials consist of the Professional Manual and self-scoring 20-item PAM test form written at a 3rd grade reading level. Once the test form has been completed, the top page peels back to reveal the scoring page. Both T scores and percentile scores can be used to determine the strength of the parentingalliance. Separate norms are available for fathers and mothers.
