Hamilton Depression Inventory (HDI)
William M. Reynolds, Ph.D. & Kenneth A. Kobak, MSSW
The HDI is a comprehensive screen for symptoms of depression. It is an easy-to-use, 23-item self-report for adults that emulates the clinician-administered Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, but screens for additional symptoms as well, making it more contemporary than most other depression measures.
The HDI is a more reliable tool because it uses multiple questions for many items. This allows clients to provide more accurate responses and also gives you a wealth of information on which to base your diagnostic and treatment decisions.
The extensive Professional Manual contains detailed administration and scoring instructions, normative information, complete validity and reliability documentation, conversion tables and more. The HDI Answer Sheets are easy to administer and score using carbonized scoring sheets.
The HDI-Short Form, a 9-item version, permits quick screening when time constraints preclude using the full-scale HDI.
Written at a 5th grade reading level, the HDI can be administered in just 10 minutes to individuals or groups and it can be scored quickly and easily.
